Passing Emergency Vehicles

How do I legally pass an Emergency Vehicle (EV), which is stopped on the side of the highway?

A few years back the state of Texas Legislature enacted Transportation code 545.157. PASSING AUTHORIZED EMERGENCY VEHICLE, to help keep emergency personnel safe on the roadway.

1) It tells drivers they must vacate the lane closest to the EV when traveling on a highway with two or more lanes traveling in the same direction as the EV or

2a) must slow to 20 miles per hour less than the posted speed limit when the posted speed limit is 25 miles per hour or more 2b) or five miles per hour when the posted speed limit is less than 25 miles per hour.

Many drivers think all they need to do is slow down when they are on a multi lane highway, which is wrong.

If you are able to change out of the lane closest to the EV then you are required to. If another vehicle has you blocked, this is when you slow down.

NOTE: Being struck by a motor vehicle is always one of the major ways police officers are killed in the line of duty each year.

Nobody Loves Me

This precious little puppy isn't just cute, he's homeless. And he isn't the only one from his litter that was abandoned.

This little guy was found one week and his brother and sister were found the following week by good Samaritans. Its hard to think anyone would just dump them in a neighborhood all alone, but they did.

Please, spay and neuter your pets.
Please, don't abandoned your responsibility to find homes for pets you cannot take care of.

Why Are Traffic Laws Enforced? By Joel Bolton, Project Manager, Gulf States Regional Center for Public Safety Innovation, Natchitoches, Louisiana
There are few activities in which a law enforcement officer can engage that have the same level of positive impact as increasing safety belt use rates through enforcement and education, removing impaired drivers from the streets before they are involved in crashes, or reducing the incidence of dangerous speed violations. Why Do Police Pick Up
Garage Sale Signs?

Under the direction of the City Council, the City of Robinson is dedicated to making Robinson a beautiful place to live. In helping to accomplishing this, the Robinson Police Department is tasked with enforcing the City's ordinances which include enforcing the garage sale sign ordinance. This effectively helps prevent the proliferation of garage sale signs placed improperly in Robinson.

Robinson recognizes the need for these signs. Three reasons to regulate garage sale signs are to preserve and improve the visual quality of Robinson, to eliminate hazards to pedestrians and motorists brought about by the distraction of signs, and to ensure compatibility with adjacent and surrounding areas.

When garage sale signs are posted illegally, the police department will remove signs that are not in compliance with the Code of Ordinances. Removed garage sale signs can be recovered at the police department within 24 hours of their being removed.
